Netflix Certification Authorized Device and Certification Process
1. What is Netflix?
Netflix is a video content service provider that allows consumers to watch a wide variety of TV shows, movies, anime, documentaries, and more on thousands of connected devices. Known for its extensive content library, high-quality video streaming, and personalized recommendation system, Netflix provides an excellent viewing experience for many users worldwide.
2. Purpose of Netflix Certification
Netflix certification is an essential step to ensure that user devices are compatible with Netflix services. The certification guarantees the best viewing experience on supported devices, including high-definition and smooth video playback, as well as content recommendations tailored to user preferences.
Core Purpose: The certification focuses on evaluating the user experience of the product, requiring completion of over 900 test items. It ensures that the device meets Netflix‘s hardware and software requirements, such as chip performance, video smoothness, buffering issues, response speed, and WiFi configuration.
Common devices authorized for Netflix certification include: televisions, game consoles, smartphones and tablets, TV boxes, computers, Blu-ray players, etc.
Note: Some TVs and TV streaming devices produced before 2015 may no longer support Netflix. The certification process typically takes 2 to 3 months.
3. Netflix Certification Process
Step 1: Project Application Submission
Create and submit a project application, generating the Electronic Serial Number (ESN) for the device, and provide basic information about the device, such as model and product name. The submitted information must be accurate and complete.
Step 2: Setting Required Test Items
Netflix reviews the submitted project information and content, and sets the necessary test items based on the device to be certified.
Step 3: Initial Self-Testing
Before starting the formal certification process, the device supplier will first use Netflix‘s testing system (NTS) to conduct self-testing on the device. This stage covers a series of critical test items, including audio-video quality, system security, performance, user experience, and stress aging tests, to ensure the device meets Netflix‘s standards and requirements.
Step 4: Submission for Pre-Certification Support
After completing the initial self-testing, the device supplier submits the tested device to Netflix for pre-certification support.
Step 5: Netflix Review and Testing
Upon receiving the device, Netflix conducts a detailed review of the supplier‘s test report and performs further testing based on the established target test plan. The test items at this stage align with the supplier‘s self-testing items to ensure comprehensiveness and accuracy. Netflix will promptly provide feedback on any issues found during testing.
Step 6: Issue Resolution and Retesting
After receiving feedback from Netflix, the device supplier addresses the raised issues and makes necessary improvements. The improved device is then resubmitted to Netflix for retesting.
Step 7: Final Evaluation and Certification Decision
Step 7: Final Evaluation and Certification Decision
After retesting, Netflix conducts a final evaluation of the device. Based on the evaluation results, Netflix decides whether to grant formal certification to the device. If the device meets all requirements and passes all tests, it will receive Netflix certification and can be used on the Netflix platform. If there are unresolved issues or if the device fails any tests, the supplier must continue to fix and improve the device and resubmit it for certification.
