Google AER/GMS certification

Google AER (Android Enterprise Recommended) is a certification program from Google designed to help businesses choose Android devices, services, and solutions that meet their rigorous standards. AER-certified products are considered to meet the high security, manageability, and reliability requirements of businesses, and as long as the mobile device or service carries the logo, you can use it with confidence in your organization.

Enterprise Compliance

Comprehensive Introduction to AER Certification

1. Advantages of AER Certification

AER (Android Enterprise Recommended) is a certification program provided by Google for enterprise devices and service providers.

Android Enterprise Recommended is more than just a badge; it is a curated list of enterprise-grade devices and solutions that meet Google‘s stringent requirements.

Devices or services bearing this badge are guaranteed to be reliable for enterprise use. For regular consumers, products with AER certification often have extended maintenance cycles.

2. Features of AER-Certified Products

Remote Device Management
AER-certified products allow enterprises to quickly set up and deploy devices. With Android Zero-Touch Enrollment, devices can be configured and deployed remotely, whether it‘s a single device or tens of thousands.

Once Android Enterprise is deployed, the organization‘s devices, employees, and data remain secure, enabling team members to focus on their work from anywhere while maximizing productivity.

Data Privacy and Security
On Android devices, work profiles are clearly separated from personal profiles, ensuring corporate data security while respecting personal privacy.

The advanced security features include proven multi-layered protection mechanisms and regular real-time updates to ensure devices and data remain safeguarded.

Enhanced User Productivity

Use ‘Focus Mode‘ to eliminate distractions and stay on task.
Pause work apps after hours using the “Pause Work Apps” feature in the work profile folder.

Android provides a suite of convenient tools to help users concentrate on critical tasks.

3. Applications of Android Enterprise Devices

Retail Industry
Android devices with built-in scanners help track inventory and interact with customers using AR and VR technologies. These devices also streamline reordering, facilitate on-site sales, and deliver other benefits.

Financial Services
The financial sector, which operates under strict regulations, requires robust security mechanisms to safeguard work and client data. Android devices meet these needs, ensuring data protection and compliance.

Transportation and Logistics
Android devices assist employees in managing inventory and tracking assets, ensuring goods are delivered on time without delays.

Manufacturing
Manufacturers can choose from various Android devices that track real-time data, helping reduce costs, improve quality, and enhance operational efficiency.

Healthcare
Android medical devices enable remote patient monitoring, access to cloud-stored medical records, and research while maintaining data privacy and security.

Hospitality Industry
Android platforms power kiosk applications for customers to place orders, retrieve information, or make payments, offering an enhanced user experience.

4. Sequence of AER and GMS Certifications

The AER version requires the addition of `com.google.android.feature.AER_OPTIMIZED`. This attribute impacts the IR review process for GMS certification. Generally, separate versions are created for GMS and AER certifications. After each is individually approved, the MR version integrates the AER attribute for release. Alternatively, GMS certification can be completed first, followed by AER certification.

5. Relationship Between AER and GMS Certifications

GMS Certification: Mandatory for products with pre-installed Google Mobile Services (GMS).
AER Certification: Optional supplementary certification.
Products certified under AER must first pass GMS certification before release.

6. AER Certification Testing Scope

Launcher Testing
Pause Work Apps button.
Work tab off-state functionality.
Work badge validation.

System UI Testing
Work calls.
Work lock features.

Work Profile Settings
Work profile scheduling.

The primary focus is on testing work applications and related user interface elements. Verification is performed using the TEST DPC application.

7. Key Considerations for AER Certification

1. AER certification must be re-applied for Android version upgrades.
2. AER tests require both video evidence and detailed test reports.
File names and content must not include any Chinese characters.
File sizes should not exceed 10GB.
